When I visited Megara the first thing that I wanted to visit and capture was the old Train Station and the Old Steam Locomotive.

Megara Old Train Station

A few words about the history of the railway in Megara. The old train station was established 1885 and was attributed to Charilaos Trikoupis. It was planned from A.Koumoundouros in 1881 who signed the agreement but was left aside due to Parliamentary disputes. Later on the “Railway company Athens Piraeus and Pelloponisou” takes on the project, starts of at Piraeus at the 21st of May 1884.The raisin producers where against the project and didn’t agree to land expropriation  and the usage of water which was scarce in Megara. The first problem which had to do with money was eventually solved the second was a harder matter to be solved. Even King George the First, came to stop a riot of the citizens of Megara who had broken the water pipes who provided water to the trains. The pressure of the citizens to the mayor led to an unthinkable denial to the King itself for water supplying. At last the solution came with the company bringing water from another district.

Megara Old Train Station

Today after more than 130 years the Old train Station with the one steam engine and a few wagons stays forgotten and slowly fading away. Unfortunately it hasn’t found any use for the public as a recreational or educational center.
